Class Description: Pistol Diagnostics is a class to refine the basics and take your Marksmanship to the next level. Heavy focus will be on Stance, Sights, Grip and Trigger, Single Hand Engagements, Multiple Target Engagement. Learning how to run your lifeline more proficiently and accurately. You can never shoot fast enough to make up for misses.

Combat Pistol is a class based on tested and proven tactics utilized by by Tier One Operators both in the US and abroad. This class will show you the difference between theory and practical application of a pistol in a combat environment. Heavy focus will be on carry and ready positions, use of cover, shooting and moving, combat and tactical reloads under stress.

These classes will focus on the all the necessary skills required for the law enforcement officer or the law-abiding citizen to carry a pistol for self-defense. We will discuss equipment and equipment placement, clothing, proper shot placement, lessons learned after 20+ years of concealed carry experience and the mindset as it relates to the armed citizen. We will spend the entire day on the range fine tuning the skills needed to dominate and win deadly force encounters including; two handed and one handed shooting, reloading, shooting on the move, proper use of cover, clearing of malfunctions and much more. A strong emphasis on the fundamentals of marksmanship will always be stressed over speed throughout the day. Most importantly, we will give you the why's of everything that is taught and encourage the students to ask questions!
Student Equipment Needs:
Eye and ear protection
Duty/off duty pistol in following calibers 9mm, .40,.45, 357 SIG
Duty/Tactical/Concealed/Off Duty holster (No Serpa unless issued by agency)
Mag carriers/pouches
Duty belt or sturdy concealed belt
Flashlight and/or Weapon mounted light
3 double stack magazines min. (six single stack magazines)
400 rounds of ammunition each day
Note taking material
Range snacks/water
Instructor: Russ Lyons is a Cleveland Police Officer with over twenty years of experience. Russ was previously assigned to the Ordnance Unit as a lead firearms trainer for ten years and was instrumental in the implementation and development of the Division's patrol rifle program. He also served on the Division's Weapons Committee and was responsible for the selection of weapons and equipment. In addition, Russ was responsible for the basic training of over eight hundred recruits and the development of the yearly in-service firearms training curriculum for the fifteen hundred officer department. Russ is currently assigned to the Cleveland Division of Police S.W.A.T. Unit where he serves as an operator, firearms trainer and scoped rifle operator. Russ is an OPOTA certified instructor for: Semi-Auto Pistol, Shotgun, AR-15, Revolver, and Scoped Rifle. Russ is also an adjunct instructor for Center Mass Inc. and the Ohio Tactical Officer's Association Training Cadre.
