All OTOA firearms training courses conducted on live fire ranges require students to wear approved body armor at all times while on the range. This policy is strictly enforced to ensure the safety of all students, instructors, and staff.
Students who arrive without the required body armor will not be permitted to participate in live fire training. This requirement must be met prior to the start of class. No exceptions will be made, and no refunds will be issued.
Each firearms course is clearly designated as either pistol-caliber or rifle-caliber. Review the corresponding requirements below to ensure you arrive properly equipped.
Courses utilizing pistol-caliber ammunition require NIJ-rated soft body armor. This includes ballistic vests or carriers rated to stop common handgun rounds in accordance with current NIJ standards.
Courses utilizing rifle-caliber ammunition require rifle-rated body armor. This includes steel or ceramic ballistic plates properly mounted in a plate carrier or soft armor system capable of stopping rifle rounds.
OTOA does not provide body armor to students. All participants are solely responsible for bringing equipment that meets the requirements outlined above.
If you have any questions regarding body armor requirements or need assistance determining what is acceptable for your course, please contact OTOA Training Headquarters:
